OUR CHALLENGE
Navigating autonomous robots in the dynamic environment of a modern warehouse presents a profound challenge. Unlike traditional systems that rely on static maps or pre-determined paths, our robots face the task of operating in spaces where layouts and obstacles are constantly changing, creating a need to adapt in real-time to the operational demands of transporting goods, without the guidance of fixed infrastructure. To achieve safe and efficient navigation through this dynamic and unpredictable setting, where humans, forklifts, and pallets are in constant motion, advanced planning algorithms capable of adapting to changing environments are required. On the control front, our robots encounter complexities in manoeuvring either as solitary entities or in collaborative fleets, with capabilities ranging from navigating unburdened to bearing loads up to several hundred kilos. This demands versatile control strategies that adjust in real-time to varying payloads and collaborative dynamics, ensuring stability and coordinated movement within the ever-changing warehouse environment.
YOUR ROLE
As a Navigation/Control Engineer at Filics, you will be at the forefront of tackling the complexities of autonomous navigation within the constantly evolving landscape of modern warehouses. Your mission is to develop sophisticated algorithms that enable our fleet of autonomous robots to dynamically adapt their navigation and control in real-time. This includes:
  • Developing Real-time Obstacle Avoidance Techniques: You will innovate ways for robots to identify obstacles, ensuring uninterrupted operation.
  • Designing Adaptive Path Planning Algorithms: You will create solutions that allow robots to traverse the warehouse safely (by detecting obstacles and stopping). In the future, you will enhance these capabilities to enable our robots to adjust routes on the fly, navigating around both static and moving obstacles.
  • Enable agile motion: You will create control algorithms which allow robots working in collaboration to manoeuvre as one using complex motion models.

Required Skills
  • Proficient in modern C++ (e.g. C++17/20/23)
  • Relevant Ph.D. or 3+ years of relevant experience in a major Automotive/Robotics/Tech company (expertise in navigation systems, robotics, or a closely related field)

Knowledge in any of the following
  • Path Planning Algorithms (A*, RRT, Dijkstra’s algorithm, and dynamic replanning methods)
  • Control Theory (PID, MPC, Adaptive control)
  • Dynamic environment Navigation
  • Real-Time Decision Making
  • Sensor Fusion and State Estimation

At Filics, we empower people to build and to create. While frameworks like ROS are a great tool to getting started quickly, we decidedly encourage our team members to write clean and professional C++ code from first principles. Yes, we want you to reinvent the wheel!
